news: Lakeland Leisure Park extension approved

Over the last 20 years, ITP has developed expertise in sustainable transport planning for holiday parks by building a comprehensive understanding of how the industry works and guests' mobility needs.  In the past 12 months we have worked on a number of Bourne Leisure sites, supporting park managers to improve transport accessibility to their holiday parks and providing guidance through the statutory planning process.

Our park-hopping Development Planning team has been fortunate to visit picturesque locations as far north as 'Haggerston Castle' on the Northumberland coast and as far west as 'Presthaven Sands' on the Welsh coastline.

Emma Taylor, Principal Consultant at ITP, reflects:

"The beautiful and often unique locations of Haven sites shows why more people than ever are choosing a 'staycation'. Our role as sustainable transport planners is to work with Park Managers to ensure that their parks are accessible for visitors without negatively impacting on the surrounding environment. Lakeland Leisure Park near the Lake District National Park is a perfect example of this"

To support the proposed expansion of Lakeland Leisure Park in Cumbria, ITP completed the Transport Assessment, developed a Framework Travel Plan for staff and visitors, and prepared a Construction Traffic Management Plan to minimise impacts on the local highway network.  Given the site’s sensitive location, close liaison with Cumbria County Council (the local Transport Authority) was crucial. Earlier this month we received the positive news that South Lakeland District Council had approved the planning application, subject to conditions, and ITP has subsequently been retained by Bourne to the discharge the highways conditions.

As summer 2018 approaches, the UK’s holiday parks are ramping up ready for their peak season. Since this is also the right time to be undertaking traffic counts and travel surveys at holiday parks and tourist destinations, we are also gearing for the summer season.  If you would like to know more about our Holiday Park planning support services, please get in touch.
