Transport Assessments

We prepare Transport Assessments and Statements to support a wide range of residential, commercial, education, leisure and healthcare development proposals.

Our thorough approach involves working closely with our clients to develop a clear understanding of their requirements, and aspirations, for proposed development sites - helping to achieve sustainable outcomes.

Travel Plans Adastral Park

We pride ourselves on being honest and open - agreeing structured approaches to preparing transport aspects of planning applications from a project's outset.

By collaborating effectively with developers and local highway authorities we build good working relationships that support successful applications.

Ashbourne Airfield

Ashbourne is the epitome of picturesque rural living, and demand for housing here is increasing. To cater for this growth we worked on behalf of FW Harrison to propose a mixed-use sustainable extension to the south-east of Ashbourne, on the site of a former airfield.

We prepared a Transport Assessment and Framework Travel Plan to support the outline planning application. To do so we collected relevant traffic data, carried out junction capacity analysis, developed a public transport strategy and sketched preliminary engineering designs for the proposed development.

Our involvement helped to ensure that outline planning consent was granted in 2015, with the related S106 agreement subsequently approved in 2016.

BT Adastral Park

Adastral Park is a world-leading centre for telecomms innovation that houses 4,000 staff and BT’s global R&D headquarters.  Plans to expand the research park and create a new residential community comprising 2,000 homes, a primary school, learning hub, hotel and community facilities led BT to appoint ITP to develop a Travel Plan and Transport Assessment to support a planning application.

We constructed a microsimulation model to assess traffic impacts and completed preliminary engineering designs for local junction & highway improvements. Uniquely we were asked to implement the Travel Plan before submitting a planning application, to demonstrate its ability to influence existing site users' travel patterns.  Over two-years we helped BT achieve a 5%-point reduction in the number of people travelling to Adatral Park by car.

Primrose Valley Holiday Park

Located on the North Yorkshire coastline, Primrose Valley is a popular Haven Holiday Park owned and operated by Bourne Leisure. With the popularity of ‘staycations’ in the UK increasing, ITP advised in both 2003 and 2015 on planning applications to expand the site to provide more accommodation for holidaymakers.

Our role was to prepare a Transport Assessment and Travel Plan, which also included the relocation of the main park entrance and technical appraisal of the revised access junction arrangement. In both instances, we helped our clients to secure planning approval successfully.
