Lowestoft is a coastal town in Suffolk and the location for the ‘Lowestoft Local Links’ behaviour change programme. Its three complementary strands encouraged the use of sustainable transport in businesses, schools and communities.

ITP led the delivery of the business component. Our involvement covered the initial set-up and promotion of the business travel plan network, alongside managing the marketing and promotion activities, and delivering tailored Travel Plan support. 

By encouraging 150 local businesses to participate we achieved a 10% reduction in car driver trips and over £2 million of public health savings. The project won the CIHT Sustainability Award in 2013.

Derby Connected

Derby City Council’s ‘Connected’ programme was introduced in 2013 to inspire, advise and support local people to make more trips by walking, cycling, car sharing and public transport. ITP delivered the business Travel Advice Service.

Our approach built on our award-winning Engage+ methodology, which helps employers' define and deliver achievable sustainable travel action plans. We collaborated with senior executives and management teams at 250 employers in Derby City Centre and major business parks, including some of the city’s largest employers; Severn Trent, Balfour Beatty, and Reckitt Benckiser. The work of the Travel Advice Service reached over 33,000 local employees.

Monitoring surveys revealed an average 6%-point reduction in drive-alone commuting trips and a 6%-point increase in sustainable commuter trips to Connected workplaces as a result of our work. The project won both the 'Sustainable Transport Award' and the 'Overall Award' at the 2017 CIHT Awards. 

Maylands on the Move

Dacorum Borough Council commissioned ITP to deliver the Maylands on the Move workplace travel engagement programme at Maylands Business Park in Hemel Hempstead - the eastern region's largest business park.  

We developed and implemented a tailored business engagement strategy, a multi-channel marketing and communications plan, and worked with over 80 local employers to help them develop Travel Action Plans.

Our work achieved a 10% reduction in single occupancy car use and an increase in car sharing and bus journeys.
