Associate: Transport Strategy

Transport Planner

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced transport planner to join our Transport Strategy team.

ITP is an award-winning transport planning and research consultancy based in the UK.  We work with some of the world’s foremost city authorities, transport operators, property developers and funding agencies to plan, design and deliver highly sustainable mobility networks and places that seek to improve the way the world moves.

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced transport planner to join our Transport Strategy team.  You will be expected to lead a range of UK projects to include developing Ultra Low Emission Zones for major cities, preparing transport evidence bases for Local Plans, and constructing business cases for significant public transport, urban cycling and public realm initiatives.  

You will be based in one of our UK offices, but your work will involve you travelling to different locations from time to time – travelling to meetings and collaborating with clients, as required by the projects.

We expect the right candidate to:

  • Lead transport strategy projects that run from anywhere between 2 months and 2 years
  • Manage time effectively, working with colleagues to deliver to scope and budget
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with clients, helping to secure repeat work
  • Proactively contribute to company growth through business development activities
  • Inspire and develop less-experienced members of staff by freely sharing your knowledge 

We think the ideal candidate will also have:

  • Exceptional transport planning skills - ideally a mix of spreadsheet modelling, report writing for decision-makers and technical audiences, data analysis and visualisation, concept design/illustration, business case development and presentation
  • A sound understanding of transport strategy, Local Plans, the way government funds transport improvements and the 21st Century mobility challenges facing towns and cities
  • Demonstrable experience of managing projects for local authorities and/or private sector clients, developing business cases that result in the delivery of sustainable transport improvements and self-guided learning and progressive career development
  • A growing network of industry contacts and positive client referrals
  • Excellent report-writing skills, with a keen eye for detail
  • A TPP (or similar) professional qualification
