Education and Healthcare

The delivery of public services requires an inclusive and holistic approach to ensuring the needs of all site users are fully appreciated, and that new development is truly integrated.

We help nurseries, schools, further & higher education institutions and healthcare trusts to maintain high levels of accessibility for staff, students, patients and visitors across a range of travel modes.

Milton Keynes University Hospital

Building on our existing relationship with Milton Keynes University Hospital’s Estates Team, ITP advised Galliford Try during the initial feasibility stages of a proposed development of new office accommodation and car park consolidation.

Our involvement included collaborative project team meetings, preparation of technical notes and junction assessment using specialist junction modelling tools. Our work will ensure that the necessary technical and practical transport considerations have been taken when preparing plans for development.

Western Hospital, Southampton

Combining several clinics, inpatients and outpatients wards within a city centre site, car parking had become a significant issue for the Solent NHS Trust.

To understand the options for development at the site, whilst acknowledging any knock-on impact on the car parking provision, ITP was commissioned to undertake an extensive car park occupancy survey over a period of several days. The project delivered a full breakdown of parking demand, split by staff and visitor and including detail such as dwell time and parking zone.

MSD Animal Health, Milton Keynes

Set within a specialist campus in Milton Keynes, MSD Animal Health develop and produce veterinary drugs and treatments. ITP has worked with the client over several years to deliver site redevelopment and extension projects.

Due to the nature of the site, specific arrangements for access and servicing are required, which were achieved through proactive engagement with the local highway authority. Following a strategy of travel planning and car park management, ITP was able to reduce the required level of car parking, limiting land take and unnecessary expense.

Reaside Clinic, Birmingham

We helped Birmingham and Solihull NHS trust with their planning application for an expansion of Reaside Clinic in Rubery, Birmingham. With the existing clinic being retained for community uses, and the expansion increasing the number of beds at the site, a Transport Assessment and Framework Travel Plan were required to provide information on how this would affect the local highway network.

ITP's team assessed the capacity of three junctions by applying 'first principles' modelling through the programs; PICADY, ARCADY and LinSig. This gave a full understanding of the potential impacts of the site and helped secure planning consent for the expansion.

Little Ripley Nursery, Sutton Coldfield

The Little Ripley Nursery in Sutton Coldfield wanted to apply for a change in use from a residential and special care unit to a children's day nursery. ITP was commissioned to support the planning application and prepare a Transport Assessment to analyse the impact the change in use would have on the highway network and parking provision.

The site was contentious for residents and after the application was initially rejected, the decision was taken to appeal where ITP provided a Statement of Case with a strong technical argument supporting the sites sustainable location and current access, resulting planning permission being granted.
